This webinar offers an opportunity to touch base with concepts of how Polyvagal Theory informs a body psychotherapeutic approach to clients suffering from trauma and what are helpful interventions. The webinar offers a bird eye view of the most relevant perspectives on how trauma therapy has developed in the last two decades with the knowledge we have on the functioning of the brain and nervous system.
The focus is on how the therapeutic relationship can support trauma healing and we will focus on the basic interventions that can be helpful (and what might be less helpful). Some areas and questions Giel will try to answer are:
- The polyvagal Perspective on dysregulation.
- How we can understand the dysregulation of the nervous system and symptoms like anxiety, panic, dissociation, depression and many other symptoms, and the limits of talking therapy.
- What regulation techniques do we use?
- What interventions from the working method ”Somatic Experiencing” supports in working with trauma using the body?
- What other trauma interventions in therapy can be used and helpful?
There will be two short theoretic introductions, followed up by some questions from participants. In between these two blocks, there will be a chance to meet some other participants in break-out rooms and connect to each other more personally and jointly digest the content of the webinar.
